Ever think, “I’m so awkward in front of the camera…” or “What am I even supposed to do with my hands?” Oh, girl—same. You are not the only one. That’s exactly why I love photographing engagement sessions. They give you a chance to shake off the nerves, ask questions, and get comfy in front of the camera. Honestly—it’s like a built-in date night with photos to remember it by (with me happily third-wheeling).
My process is a mix of light posing, lots of prompts to bring out natural smiles, plenty of bad jokes to spark real laughter, and a good dose of candids—the little in-between moments you may not even realize happened.
Before we even meet, I’ll send you a quick questionnaire to learn more about you—your vibe, your story, and what makes your relationship special. From there, we’ll dream up a session that feels personal and fun. Think less about “posing” and more about laughing, playing, and just being yourselves.
It was a perfect spring day when we started their session at a local greenhouse—color everywhere, dancing between the rows. Hueter’s Greenhouse in York, PA, does an incredible job with their space (side note: they also have the cutest party room to host showers, birthdays, or small parties—check them out!).
Bria and Dan are an adventurous couple who love to read, so our second stop was a cozy local bookstore. The owners were kind enough to let us wander the aisles, snap photos between the shelves, and even turn things up a little playful and spicy.
We wrapped up the day strolling the streets of their town, laughing and soaking in the spring air. Stay tuned for more of their story as they elope this fall in New York—the views are going to be unreal.
I met Shayna and Ben online, and right away they told me they wanted their engagement session to capture their playful, joyful love. They also wanted to show off their hometown of Lancaster, so we planned a morning adventure right in the heart of downtown.
We started with dancing on parking garages we totally claimed as our own, picked up some stems from a flower shop for our flat we were planning for later, and then made our way to Decades. If you live in or around Lancaster and haven’t been—you are missing out! Decades is a vintage-chic restaurant and bar with bowling, arcade games, and so much character. (They even just added an ice cream bar out front—on my list to try ASAP!)
The owners kindly let us set up before they opened, so Shayna and Ben bowled, sank basketball shots, and totally dominated the skee-ball lanes. Their joy was infectious, and the whole session felt like one giant laugh. I can’t wait to capture their wedding this fall—it’s going to be just as fun and full of energy.
Engagement sessions aren’t just about practice in front of the camera (though that’s huge). They’re about celebrating your story in a way that feels true to you. The dating part of your story, the “how it became,” and personality. Once you have these photos, there are so many ways to enjoy them:
Announce your engagement and share your love story with friends and family
Send out unique, personal save-the-dates
Create a custom guest book for your wedding where guests can sign around your photos
Print your favorites through my online store, made with a local lab I trust
Engagement sessions are part date night, part confidence boost, and part keepsake. They’re the best way to start this next chapter—with laughter, love, and memories you’ll treasure long before the wedding day even arrives.
Here are a few dream sessions I’d love to bring to life soon:
